FLORIDA -- Army PFC Charles Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Parker of Blackstone Road, qualified as expert in firing the M-14 on Sept. 26 in Okinawa, while serving with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He is a rifleman in Company B, 1st Battalion of the brigade’s 503d Infantry. Parker entered the Army in April 1962 and has been overseas since November 1962. WILLIAMSTOWN -- Two Williamstown youths who were graduated from Mount Greylock Regional High School in June, have enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the "Buddy" program and are now taking their basic training at the Great Lakes (Ill.) Naval Recruit Training Center. They are Henry Ankers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ankers of Luce Road and Joseph Geist, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Geist of 31 Simonds Road.

NORTH ADAMS -- American Legion Auxiliary Frank R. Stiles Unit 125 honors its Girls State delegates at a covered dish supper meeting on Oct. 5. The delegates were Joelle Collins and Emily Smachetti from Drury Senior High School and Sharon O’Neil from Charles H. McCann Technical School. The girls spent a week in June at Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee.
NORTH ADAMS -- The North Adams Pee Wee football team remained perfect on the season with a 16-8 win over the Adams bears. For North Adams, Aaron Dupuis led the offense, scoring both touchdowns. Joe Robare and Stan Shoestock each scored a two-point conversion. Shoestock led the defense with 11 tackles, followed by Chris Messina with nine and Luke Labenz with seven.

NORTH ADAMS -- MaryAnn Abuisi, the longest serving city clerk, will retire on Dec. 1 after 28 years of service. She will be taking advantage of this year’s early retirement package. Abuisi, 64, started as clark in February 1976, three months after the new City Hall building was completed in October 1975.
CHESHIRE -- In Cheshire Youth Football play, Lanesboro defeated Cheshire White, 28-22, in the PeeWee Division. Corey Gallup led Cheshire’s offense, rnning for 106 yards and three touchdowns. Corey Puccio added a two-point conversion, while Chad Alibozek played well. Defensively, Cheshire was led by Nate Alibozek, Jim Howe, Bailey Hisert and Justin Schneider.
