NORTH ADAMS -- Two Drury High School seniors were honored at an assembly for outstanding performances in the National Merit Scholarship competition. They are Edward Lescarbeau Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lescarveau of River Road, Clarksburg, and Patricia Peters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peters of 17 Overlook Ter. ADAMS -- After spending a 25-day leave with is parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Straczek of 5 Albert St., Pfc. John Straczek of the U.S. Army has gone to Oakland, Calif., on his way to Korea where he has been assigned for a 14-month tour of duty. He began Army duty Dec. 4, 1962, and had basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. and Fort Gordon, Ga.

CHESHIRE -- Daniel Petithory, son of Louis and Barbara Petithory of 1 Railroad St., has been promoted in the U.S. Army to the rank of private first class. He is a military police specialist with the Military Police Company at Fort McClellan, Ala. Petithory is a 1987 graduate of Hoosac Valley High School.
ADAMS -- Army 1st Lt. Stephen Vigna, son of Joseph and Elaine Vigna Jr. of 27 Forest Park Ave., has participated in the NATO-sponsored exercise, Return of Forces to Germany ‘88. He is a scout platoon leader with the 4th Cavalry at Fort Riley, Kansas. Vigna graduated in 1981 from Hoosac Valley High School, Cheshire.

NORTH ADAMS -- Exalted Ruler David Merrick and District Deputy Grand Exalter Ruler Douglas Merrick from North Adams Elks Lodge 487, attended a banquet Sept. 27 in Swansea, hosted by the Massachusetts Elks Association. Over 700 Elks attended.
CHESHIRE -- In Pee-Wee Division Cheshire Youth Football, North Adams defeated the Cheshire Chiefs, 22-16. The Chiefs offense was led by Zach Lancia with a touchdown and two-point conversion. Mitch Graves had a touchdown and Chad Alibozek scred a two-point conversion. Defensively, Cheshire was helped by Bailey Hisert with a fumble recovery and Conner Tworig and Devon Burke.
