NORTH ADAMS -- Six area farmers have been elected to community committees of the Berkshire County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. Named to the committee representing Adams, Cheshire and Savoy were Arthur Brandon, Edmund Kieltyka and Stanley Ziemba, all of Adams. Elected to the committee representing North Adams, Williamstown, Clarksburg, Florida, Hancock and New Ahsford were Arthur Williams of Hancock, Arthur George of Williamstown and Howard Morrison of Williamstown. NORTH ADAMS -- David McKeon, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McKeon of 235 River St., enlisted in the Navy yesterday for four years of service. He enlisted and was sent immediately to Ablany, N.Y., and from there was flown to the Great lakes (Ill.) Naval Recruit Training Center for 10 weeks of basic training.

STAMFORD -- The Stamford Valley Women’s Golf League held its annual banquet at North Adams Country Club where trophies and prizes were awarded. The top team of the season was the Putters with players Eileen McShane, Mae Clough and Claire Trombley. The second place team was the Birdies with players Jane Dailey, Dot Denault and Loretta Boyer.
NORTH ADAMS -- Pitcher’s Mound beat Key West Lounge, 89-60 in North Adams Men’s P&R basketball. Jim Turcotte scored 30 points to lead Pitcher’s Mound, while Doug Mackie scored 28 points. Dave Mendoza added 14. Jerry Moorman led Key West with 16 points, while Mark Moulton and Jim Moriarty each added 13.
