CHESHIRE -- A Cheshire man escaped serious injury late Thursday after he rolled over his vehicle on Route 8, according to police, who said he will face several charges.
Joseph Schufrieder, 21, was heading south in his 2005 Nissan Frontier about 11:45 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle about 50 yards north of the former Country Charm restaurant, police said. The vehicle rolled completely and landed on its side.
"When I arrived, (Schufrieder) was crawling out of the window," said Cheshire Police Officer Brandon Gallagher. "He was in and out of consciousness."
Schufrieder was transported to Berkshire Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
Both lanes of traffic on Route 8 were closed for nearly an hour while responders cleared the scene.
Schufrieder faces charges of a marked lanes violation and operating a motor vehicle without a license, and more charges are pending, Gallagher said.
Police found contraband in the vehicle during an on-scene search, said Gallagher, who declined to identify the items, citing the ongoing investigation.
He also said the department may choose to subpoena the results of blood samples taken from Schufrieder at the hospital.
