NORTH ADAMS -- At 7:15 p.m. on Friday night the clock struck midnight for Police as Morrison-Berkshire scored the game ending run on a fielders-choice ending Police's Cinderella season. Police was ranked fourth out of five seeds going into the playoffs, and they lost their first four games of the regular season to start the year. This team was used to being the underdog, but unlike Cinderella they didn't run out of time- they ran out of pitching.
Both teams started strong as starters Nick Boulger for Morrison and Taylor Carlough for Police had good control in front of them and good defense behind them as the two combatants held each other scoreless for the first two innings. Many balls were put into play and many good plays were made. Morrison mounted the first threat in the second inning when Zack Yeaton walked and advanced to second on a passed ball. After two outs he tried to score on a fielders choice but after the play was made to first base, Police first baseman Joseph Serrano turned and fired a strike to catcher Doug Sigsbury, nailing Yeaton at the plate on a close play ending the inning.
Police would draw first blood in the top of the third on a Nate Van Steemburg single. Morrison would score five runs in their half of the inning as Carlough ran out of gas and had trouble finding the plate. Boulger started the rally with a walk, followed by a long double by Mike Bloom a few walks, a double by Collin Racette and before you knew it, Morrison had a 5-1
Police tried a few pitchers but it couldn't stop the bleeding as Morrison ran the bases wild, and scored six more runs on mostly on errors, walks and stolen bases in the bottom of the fourth.
For Police, Nathan Van Steemburg had two hits and the teams only RBI, for Morrison Mike Bloom and Collin Racette each had doubles. There were several nice defensive plays on the night- the Police outfield of Austin Burdick, Steven Goddard and Neel Patel all had nice catches, and for Morrison, second baseman Jonathon Boland made a nice play to his left on a hard hit grounder, taking away a hit from a Police batter.
