Congratulations to North Adams native son Dick Alcombright, who made history Tuesday by not only winning the mayoral election over 13-term incumbent John Barrett III but also by doing so in convincing fashion, taking 58.5 percent of the vote -- nearly a 3 to 2 margin, 3,046 to 2,166. Well, North Adams, the future is upon us, but before we take those first big steps we should take a moment to look back. For 26 years, Mayor John Barrett III gave his blood, sweat and tears in the hope of making North Adams a better place for all of us to live. Exercise is a great tool for keeping one fit and healthy, and I must admit that I don't get enough of it. But I am still fairly active. Weather permitting, I play golf most days, and I will soon be in the great outdoors hunting the elusive whitetail deer. Winter traditionally has been a bad season for me.   Full Story
