A big thank you to all those who helped with the 14th annual Eagle Street Beach event.

Especially, I want to thank Specialty Minerals, which donated 24 truckloads of sand (which are delivered by the city’s great public services guys and then donated to the City of North Adams to help at Windsor Lake, city playgrounds, etc.).

Also to sponsors Mildred Elley-Pittsfield Campus for 250 sand buckets given out free, the SteepleCats for 250 free tickets, Adams Com munity Bank for 200 beach balls as well as financial support, along with support from Smith Watson & Co. CPAs. And of course, thanks to all the Eagle Street merchants who contributed lots of prizes given out to the hundreds of children and families who participated.

Thanks to A-1 Septic, disc jockey Avery Witherell, and to "Misguided" for live music during the evening Mexican Fiesta. This event is done on a tiny budget with lots of people helping.

On a personal note, I’d also like to thank those volunteers who came just before the event to help spread the sand; my back can only take so much, so that was a life-saver.

When I first created this urban beach as a "community sculpture" in 1999, I had no idea it would become an annual event. Three years ago, we added the evening component, and there’s talk of making it a weekend-long event next year -- but that will take more organizers and volunteers. If you’d like to see that happen, please
