Williamstown, what has happened to you? Born and raised here, I chose to stay here because I thought the "Village Beautiful" was different, maybe even a little special. But apparently that’s not true, at least not anymore.
Mr. Fohlin, what have you done to my town and to my neighborhood? Applying for this grant in the dark? Without opportunities for public comment and discussion? Relocating people to a piece of protected land that was once intended for a school? Building prefab cottages that exist only on paper? A dollar store on Main street? Not the town that I know, not the place that I grew up. For the first time in my life, I’m embarrassed to say I live here.
I’m disappointed in my town manager, and in the Selectmen’s nonbinding vote against the motion to keep the Lowry property protected. Is the special town meeting on April 24 Williamstown’s last stand? I hope that the people of Williamstown will use this opportunity to protect the Village Beautiful.
