BMC hosts Dec. 9 concert
and holiday celebration
BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Music Center’s Chamber Music Series presents Jaime Laredo, violin, Steven Tenenbom, viola, Sharon Robinson, cello, and Benjamin
Hochman, piano, on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m., at Centre Congregational Church, 193 Main St.
The program includes Stravinsky’s "Suite Italienne" based on the 1920s ballet "Pulcinella"; Beethoven’s Sonata for cello and piano in A Major; and Faure’s Piano Quartet in C minor.
Laredo and Robinson serve as the Brattleboro Music Center’s Artistic Advisors and offer their performance as a benefit to support the BMC’s work. On Monday, Dec. 10, the Vermont Arts Council will recognize Robinson with the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts.
Following the Dec. 9 concert, at 5 p.m., the BMC invites everyone to stroll down Main Street and enjoy a special holiday celebration at the nearby Robert H. Gibson River Garden. Festivities include live and silent auctions for holiday gift giving, hors d’oeuvres and seasonal libations. Proceeds will benefit student financial aid and other BMC outreach and education programs.
Tickets are $30, $20 and $10. This concert is sponsored by Against the Grain Gourmet.
Reservations for the BMC’s Holiday Celebration, at 5 p.m., at the Robert H. Gibson River Garden are $25.

VJC throws big band bash
BRATTLEBORO -- The Vermont Jazz Center Big Band will host its 10th annual big band gala and dance on Friday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m., at the VJC in the Cotton Mill. For this concert, the VJC big band will perform with the legendary saxophonist Houston Person and vocalists Rebecca Holtz and Mark Anagnostopulos.
Admission, which includes a dessert buffet, is $25 general or $28 for reservations that include reserved seating (table spaces are limited so call early). River Singers perform Dec. 8 and 9
GRAFTON -- The River Singers Community Choir led by Mary Cay Brass will hold its annual December concerts on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m., and, Sunday, Dec. 9, at 4 p.m., at The White Church.
The River Singers, a 95-voice choir performs songs of joy, health, love and peace to celebrate winter traditions and the turning of the year with a mix of music from many cultural and musical traditions.
Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund for next summer’s Village Harmony trip to Macedonia and also the Conflict Transformation Across Cultures Program at SIT. Suggested donation is $14, $10 for seniors and students. For information, contact Mary Cay at 802-490-4094 or www.marycaybrass.com.
