BRATTLEBORO -- Acclaimed deaf performer Janis Cole is the featured artist for the Vermont Interpreter Referral Service’s eighth annual Yolande Henry Community Fund Fundraiser at the Vermont Center for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing/Austine School gym on Saturday, May 4, at 7 p.m.
Cole is known throughout New England as an actor, director, producer, creative arts consultant, storyteller, ASL trainer, community advocate and facilitator. Cole appeared on Broadway in "Children of a Lesser God" and has performed across the U.S. with the National Theatre of the Deaf.
Another noted Deaf performer, Rosa Lee Timm, will join Cole for a special guest appearance. Together they will present their hilarious signed version of "Who’s On First?," which has gone viral on the internet.
The performance will be in ASL (American Sign Language); spoken English interpretation will be provided
Desserts and non-alcoholic beverages will be for sale before the show. Raffle tickets will be on sale for cash prizes
All proceeds from ticket, raffle and dessert sales will benefit the Yolande Henry Community Fund which pays for sign language interpreters for family events in Vermont not covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act. VIRS Director Nancy Groff says that VIRS is hoping to raise $5,000 this year.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 5-12 and free for children under age 5.
