Seminar scheduled for women adjusting to cancer treatment

Monday, May 25
PITTSFIELD — The American Cancer Society will hold a Look Good ... Feel Better seminar on Monday, June 8, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the American Cancer Society/Berkshire Medical Resource Center located at Berkshire Medical Center, 725 North St.

To register call Laura Healey at 413-493-2118.

Look Good ... Feel Better is a free program that teaches women who are currently undergoing cancer treatment hands-on cosmetic techniques to help them cope with appearance-related side effects from chemotherapy or radiation treatments.

Wig care, scarf and hat use, skin care and nail care will all be discussed. Cosmetologists and aestheticians trained by the American Cancer Society will conduct the program, which is non-medical and does not promote any product line.

The event is as much about improving and maintaining self-image and confidence as it is about appearance," Marie Barzousky, Berkshire County community executive, said in a news release. "Patients enjoy the opportunity to spend time in a relaxed, non-medical setting with others in the same situation.

A variety of patient services, support programs and comprehensive cancer information are available through the society's toll free 1-800-ACS-2345 number, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in both English and Spanish and its website at www.cancer.org.
