NEWPORT, R.I. -- Trailing by three runs to the host Gulls in the top of the ninth inning, the North Adams SteepleCats rallied, but fell short, dropping their third straight game, 7-6.
The Gulls win gives the Rhode Island team a sweep of the two-game series with North Adams this season.
North Adams took the lead in the first, as Shane Klemcke hit his first home run of the year, a solo shot. But Newport rallied with three runs in the second and four in the fourth.
The SteepleCats got single runs in the third and fifth innings and then added three more in the ninth. Shane O’Connell and Conor Biggio were the big hits in that final inning with RBI doubles to each of their credit.
Charlie Law took the loss for North Adams, (15-11). Daniel Wright was the winner, improving to 5-0. Jeff Roy had three hits for North Adams.

NORTH ADAMS -- Consigli defeated IBerkshires 8-1 to take the first game of the three-game championship series on Monday night. Game 2 is tonight at 7 p.m. at Alcombright Complex.
Dan Flynn and Joe Liporace each had two hits for the winners, while Rob Buffis was the winning pitcher. He struck out seven while going the distance.
Andrew Rickus has a triple and an RBI for IBerkshires.
