Drury golf
Look back: After winning just four matches last year, the Blue Devils have secured a playoff berth this season. Drury clinched the postseason position with a victory over Mount Everett on Oct. 2. Matt Lawrence continued to lead his team’s turnaround with a 35. Drury also beat Wahconah and lost to Taconic.
Look ahead: The Blue Devils have a little bit of a layoff before getting back on the course on Oct. 10. They will take on Hoosac Valley and then finish their season against Greylock on Oct. 15.
Drury boys’ soccer
Look back: The Blue Devils registered their first two wins of the year, beating Mount Everett and Mohawk in back-to-back games. Ryan Ouimet scored three goals this week, two against Mount Everett and one against Mohawk.
Look ahead: The Blue Devils will travel to Mount Everett on Oct. 15 for a rematch against the only Berkshire County team they have beaten this season. Before that, Drury will host Taconic on Oct. 11.
Hoosac boys’ soccer
Look back: Hoosac Valley suffered its first loss in the division on Oct. 4 against Lee, 2-1. The Hurricanes managed a tie with Wahconah on Sept. 28 and shutout Pittsfield, 2-0 earlier in the week.
Look ahead: Hoosac is off until Oct. 11 when a tough Monument Mountain team comes to Cheshire. Hoosac then visits Wahconah for a rematch on Oct. 13.
McCann Tech boys’
Look back: Chad Raimer netted three goals this week to bring his season total to 12 so far, but it wasn’t enough as his team went 1-2 on the week. The Hornets lost to Commerce 9-4 on Oct. 3 and Westfield Vocational 5-1 on Oct. 5. The lone win of the week came in a 2-0 shutout over Franklin Tech on Oct. 2.
Look ahead: The Hornets will host Smith Vocational on Oct. 9 and then travel to take on county-foe Mount Everett on Oct. 12.
Mount Greylock boys’ soccer
Look back: The Majumder brothers are proving to be quite a force as the Mounties continued their unbeaten season this week. Nathan and Jonah accounted for all four of the team’s goals against Taconic on Oct. 4. Nathan also scored his team’s lone goal in a 1-0 win over Lee on Sept. 28. None of the starters dressed for a game against Hampden Charter on Oct. 2, but the Mounties still prevailed 4-2. Nathan has 13 goals and seven assists on the season. Benni McComish leads the league with eight assists.
Look ahead: It could be a difficult week for the Mounties. They take on Amherst on Oct. 6 and then Lenox on Oct. 8, before challenging Worcester North on Oct. 10.
Drury cross country
Look back: Tia Brown recorded her highest career finish and the highest finish for a Drury runner this season when she finished 14th at Lenox on Oct. 3. Shannon Garvey was the next Blue Devil to cross the line, finishing 42nd overall. The team was swept by Wahconah and Lenox.
The boys also had a tough week. They were swept by Lenox and Wahconah also, by scores of 15-50.
Look ahead: The Blue Devil boys will be at St. Joseph’s this week to take on Greylock and St. Joseph’s. The girls will square off against Mount Greylock and St. Joseph’s, as well.
Hoosac Valley cross country
Look back: The Hurricanes’ hosted their first race since 2010 and watched Travis Ciempa set a course record of 17 minutes and eight seconds. Jared Haley and Trevor Ciempa also had strong races, finishing in the top 20 to pace wins over Taconic and St. Joseph’s.
Pitsfield’s Lauren Farry set the girls record in 20:03, while Hoosac’s Kalyn Alibozek grabbed second, with a time of 20:24. Sydnee Gallup also recorded a top 10 finish for Hoosac Valley.
Look ahead: Both the boys and girls teams will travel to Monument Mountain on Oct. 10. The girls will take on Pittsfield, Wahconah and Lenox. The boys will be pinned against Taconic, Pittsfield and Wahconah.
McCann Tech cross country
Look back: Nick Kordana ran a cross country meet for just the second time ever on Oct. 2. He was the first McCann finisher across the line with a time of 19:32, he was 27th overall. Justin Schneider finished four seconds behind him and Mitchell Garner rounded out the top three Hornets across the line.
For the girls, Zoe Loughman picked up a 19th place finish and was the top McCann girl across the line. Sophia Oliveri was 21st with a time of 25:09. Laura Netti was the third finisher for McCann.
Look ahead: Both teams will host Sabis on Oct. 9.
Mount Greylock cross country
Look back: The boys’ team held off Pittsfield 22-33 and beat Taconic 18-39 on Oct. 3. Carter Stripp was the first Greylock runner across the line, finishing third. Will Kirby came in fourth with a time of 17:52, despite having an asthma attack half way through the race. Sam Kobrin and Will Nolan also grabbed top 10 finishes.
The girls’ team made a decision to hold its top four runners out of the Oct. 3 race. Laura Galib seized the opportunity and was the top Mountie across the line, finishing fifth. Mollyann Haskins was eighth. The top four sat out to prepare for the Wide World of Sports/Disney meet in Florida on Oct. 5. Results were not available at the time of publication.
Look ahead: With just three matchups remaining for the Mountie boys, three wins will push the team into a guaranteed third place finish in the North, with a chance at grabbing second place. They will challenge Mount Everett and Drury at St. Joseph’s on Oct. 10.
The girls still have a shot at the top spot in the North. They will also be at St. Joseph’s to take on Drury and Mount Everett this week.
Drury girls’ soccer
Look back: Cori Ghidotti scored the lone goal for the Blue Devils this week against St. Joseph’s in a 1-1 tie. The team’s important South Division match against Hoosac was postponed to Oct. 22 due to a heavy rainstorm on Thursday.
Look ahead: Drury will play two North Division opponents this week and sandwich South Division foe Mount Everett in the middle. The Blue Devils will host Monument Mountain on Oct. 9 and Wahconah on Oct. 15.
Hoosac girls’ soccer
Look back: Meg Rodowicz and Danielle Beauchemin dominated South Division opponent Lee on Oct. 1 and helped push the Hurricanes into first place with a 7-1 win. Rodowicz had three goals and three assists. Beauchemin had two goals and two assists. Hoosac’s only other game of the week, against Drury, was postponed due to rain.
Look ahead: Hoosac will play Wahconah on Oct. 9 and St. Joseph’s on Oct. 12. The Hurricanes are in a tight battle with Mount Greylock for first place in the South. Hoosac finished the week with eight points, Greylock has seven points and Lee has five.
McCann Tech girls’ soccer
Look back: Marry Nguyen netted another hat trick -- her fifth of the season -- and the Hornets’ defense got back into gear with a 6-0 win over Westfield Vocational on Oct. 5. The Hornets suffered their first loss of the season against St. Joseph’s on Oct. 1, 4-0, but bounced back with two wins.
Look ahead: The Hornets will travel to Commerce on Oct. 9 and get a rematch against the only team to beat them so far this season, St. Joseph’s, on Oct. 10. They will also play Renaissance on Oct. 12.
Mount Greylock girls’ soccer
Look back: Miranda Bucky scored the only goal of the week for the Mounties in a 1-0 win over St. Joseph’s. The win leaves Greylock one point behind Hoosac for the lead in the South Division.
Look ahead: The Mounties will square off against Taconic on Oct. 9 and play an important South Division showdown against Lee on Oct. 11.
Hoosac Valley golf
Look back: Chad Alibozek recorded an eagle and a birdie on his way to shooting a 3-under-par 31 and almost leading his team to an upset over Pittsfield. The upset didn’t happen, as Pittsfield hung on for a two-stroke victory.
Look ahead: The Hurricanes will put an end to their season this week by taking on Drury on Oct. 10 and visiting Mount Greylock on Oct. 12.
McCann Tech golf
Look back: The Hornets struggles continued this week as the team attempts to reload for the future. The were defeated by Franklin Tech and Mohawk.
Look ahead: The rebuilding season is coming to an end for the Hornets. They will travel to Greenfield on Oct. 9 and Frontier on Oct. 11. The season concludes the following week against Franklin Tech.
Mount Greylock golf
Look back: The Mounties suffered yet another loss this week, this time to Wahconah. Matt Wiseman had his team’s low score with a 43.
Look ahead: Mount Greylock will visit Lenox and host Hoosac this week, before putting an end to its season on Oct. 15 against Drury.
Mount Greylock volleyball
Look back: The Mounties picked up their third win of the season this week, beating Pittsfield 3-0 on Oct. 1. Michala Dean led the way with 22 kills and five aces. Meredith Dezieck had 22 assists and Jenna Markland recorded 11 digs.
Look ahead: It won’t be an easy week for the Mounties. They’ll challenge second place Wahconah and unbeaten Lee this week.
