NORTH ADAMS -- The Hoosac Valley swim teams started with a sweep of St. Joseph's, getting a 65-62 win in the boys' meet and a 105-60 victory on the girls' side.
Emma and Julia Whitney led the Hurricane girls with two wins each. Emma took the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes, 14.03 seconds before winning the 500 free in 5:54.22. Both times qualified her for Western Mass. Julia won the 200 IM (2:28.55) an the 100 butterfly (1:10.19). St. Joe's got a win in the 100 back (1:14.81) from Maddie Roulier while Katie Nugai won the 100 free (1:03.62).
The Hurricanes also got single wins from Elizabeth Bernardy in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.03) and Michaella Vecchiarelli in the 50 free (28.53).
In the boys' meet, Keith Pero won the 200 freestyle for Hoosac in 2:25.78. Connor Lein captured the 50 freestyle for St. Joe's in 26.35. The Hurricanes also got a win in the 200 individual medley from Mike DiSanti in 2:41.43.
"I'm very happy," said Hoosac coach Eryn Brewer. "They did very good for only having seven days of practice. They did very good. They've been looking very good at practice."
