CHESHIRE -- Jen Gale and Emily Rosse scored 11 points each as Hoosac Valley girls’ basketball team won its Holiday Tournament, 54-26 over Taconic on Saturday.

The Hurricaners took a 14-4 lead after one quarter and never lost the lead.

"I thought we got pretty good pressure on them all game," Hoosac coach Ron Wojcik said. "That seemed to wear them down a bit."

The Hurricanes played solid defense the entire game, holding Taconic out of double figures in every quarter. The most points the Braves could muster in a single quarter was nine. The Hurricanes put up double figures in every quarter, and 16 in the final frame to secure the victory.

Meg Rodowicz added nine points for the Hurricanes. The team shot five 3-pointers on the night, including two by Gale.

Angela O’Neill led the Braves with seven points.

The Hurricanes won Game 1 of the tournament 68-16 against Sci Tech. Taconic got to the title game by dispatching Palmer 49-40.

The Hurricanes now host St. Joseph’s on Dec. 28.

Hoosac Valley swimming

NEW LEBANON, N.Y. -- Hoosac Valley won both ends of a meet against New Lebanon, the boys winning 38-35 and the girls winning 60-34 on Friday.

Keith Pero had two individual wins for the Hurricanes, taking first in the 100 breaststroke and 500 freestyle. New Lebanon’s Tristan Southard doubled in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

DiSanti also captured two individual victories for the Hurricanes. He won the 200 IM as well as the 100 butterfly.

The girls meet belonged to the Whitney sisters. Hoosac’s Emma and Julia Whitney each won two individual events. Julia won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke while Emma won the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.

Elizabeth Bernardy also grabbed and individual victory for the Hurricanes. She won the 100 freestyle by more than seven seconds.
