North County high school athletics got back into action to start the new year. Nordic skiing finally got it's season started and it appears the Alpine season will get underway on Jan. 7.

This week's highlights: Ryan Ouimet continued his torrid start. He registered 16 points in three games for the Wahconah hockey team. ... Led by Will Kirby, the Mount Greylock boys' Nordic team took seven of the top 10 spots and won the first meet of the season. ... Tyler Picard scored 24 points for the Mount Greylock boys' basketball team in a big win over Lenox. ... Emily Moulton had 14 rebounds on Friday night to help Drury past Wahconah.

Alpine skiing

Look ahead: Both the boys and girls will start the season on Jan. 7 with the Giant Slalom. It will be just one week later than scheduled.

Drury boys' basketball

Look back: Nolan Bird scored a team-high 19 points in a loss against Taconic on Jan. 3. Nick Trombley added nine points in the loss, but the 27 points Shaq Ardrey scored were too much for the Blue Devils.

Look ahead: Drury will get a chance to avenge an earlier loss against Mount Greylock in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on Jan. 5.

Hoosac boys' basketball

Look back: A 29-point third quarter wasn't enough for the Hurricanes to top St. Joseph's as they lost, 68-65 on Jan. 4. Matt Braman led the team with a season-high 24 points in the loss.

Hurricanes start the week against Lenox in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. They will play Wahconah on Jan. 7 and then Pittsfield on Jan. 10. This will be the Transcript's "Game of the Week." The sports staff will be on hand to cover, live-blog and conduct post-game video interviews.

McCann boys' basketball

Look back: Twelve points from both Justin Cote and Josh Superneau weren't enough for the Hornets to sneak past Smith Voc. on Jan. 3.

Look ahead: The Hornets will try again for their first win of the season against Mount Everett on Jan. 5 in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. It's the first game of a very busy week for the Hornets. They challenge Franklin Tech on Jan. 7, Lenox on Jan. 8 and Westfield Voc. on Jan. 10.

Greylock boys' basketball

Look back: The Mounties bounced back from their first two losses of the season with a 73-41 victory over Lenox. Tyler Picard led the way with 24 points.

Look ahead: The Mounties play Drury in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic then travel to Lee on Jan. 10. They host Turners Falls to round out the week.

Drury girls' basketball

Look back: Danielle Racette scored 13 points, Ali Tatro added 11 in the second half and the Blue Devils beat Wahconah, 35-23 on Jan. 4. The Blue Devils tightened up their defense in the second half, allowing just eight points and no field goals in the fourth quarter.

Look ahead: The Blue Devils will challenge Pittsfield on Jan. 7 and host Monument on Jan. 11.

Hoosac girls' basketball

Look back: Amber Lesure and Meg Rodowicz chipped in 15 points each as the Hurricanes cruised past Mount Everett, 71-26 on Jan. 3. Hoosac hit seven 3-pointers in the victory.

Look ahead: Hoosac has just one game this week, but it's a big one. They battle South Division rival Lenox on Jan. 8.

McCann girls' basketball

Look back: Mary Nguyen scored 17 points, but it wasn't enough for the Hornets who suffered a 47-41 loss to Mount Greylock on Jan. 2. Nguyen again led the team on Jan. 4 with nine points. The Hornets lost to Belchertown, 60-15 however.

Look ahead: The Hornets play Holyoke Catholic on Jan. 8 and Putnam on Jan. 11.

Greylock girls' basketball

Look back: The Mounties topped McCann Tech 47-41 in their only contest of the week. Lucy Barrett led the way with 17 points. Arianna Walden scored 11 points in the win.

Look ahead: Greylock challenges St. Joseph's and Lenox this week.

St. Joseph's hockey

Look back: Andrew Leitch made 45 stops to help his team to a 2-2 tie against St. Mary's on Jan. 2. Eric Leitch and Dan Flynn had the goals for the Crusaders.

Look ahead: The Crusaders will take on Mount Everett on Jan. 5 and then Wahconah on Jan. 12.

Wahconah hockey

Look back: Ryan Ouimet was named the Greenfield Holiday Tournament MVP and continued his MVP performance in an 8-3 win over Taconic on Jan. 3. He scored four goals and added two assists in the win. In three games this week, he notched 16 points and helped the Warriors stay atop the Hennessy League standings.

Look ahead: The Warriors now have a long layoff before taking on St. Joseph's on Jan 12.

Hoosac boys' Nordic

Look back: The Hurricanes finished in sixth place in the opening meet of the season. Justin Barnes was the top finisher for Hoosac, coming in 18th overall.

Look ahead: The season continues with a meet at Wahconah on Jan. 5.

Hoosac girls' Nordic

Look back: Hoosac took sixth place at Prospect Mountain to start the season. Danielle Beauchemin was the only Hurricane in the top 25; she finished 16th.

Look ahead: Hoosac will get another shot at moving up the league standings at Wahconah on Jan. 5.

Greylock boys' Nordic

Look back: The Mounties put seven skiers in the top 10 to start the season on Dec. 31 at Prospect Mountain. Will Kirby finished first in 16 minutes, 9 seconds. Alex White took second and Sean Houston was third. Will Nolan took fifth place, Derek Wood was seventh, Matt Wiseman was eighth and Jonah Majumder was 10th.

Look ahead: The Mounties will go for win No. 2 at Wahconah on Jan. 5.

Greylock girls' Nordic

Look back: Kat Chenail took first place in 18:55 in the first meet of the year to lead the Mounties to victory on Dec. 31. Sophia Dastoli finished fourth, Alexandra DeVeaux was fifth, Chloe Anderson took sixth, Alexa Adams was seventh and Sophie Gerry was eighth for the Mounties.

Look ahead: The Mounties will look to expand their lead in the standings at Wahconah on Jan. 5.

Hoosac boys' swimming

Look back: Keith Pero and Mike DiSanti each captured individual victories, but the Hurricanes fell to Mount Anthony, 107-42 on Jan. 2.

The struggles continued for the Hurricanes on Jan. 4. They lost to Pittsfield 74-17. DiSanti got the only victory for the Hurricanes in the meet.

Look ahead: The Hurricanes have another busy week. They take on Wahconah on Jan. 8 and then travel to Taconic on Jan 11.

Hoosac girls' swimming

Look back: In a rare appearance in the 500-yard freestyle, Emma Whitney won by almost a full minute on Jan. 2 against Mount Anthony. It wasn't enough to give her team the victory, however, as the Hurricanes fell 92-78. Against MAU, Liz Bernardy qualified for Western Mass. with a second-place finish in the 50 free. She finished in 27.85 seconds.

Emma Whitney, Julia Whitney and Liz Bernardy all won two events as the Hurricanes beat Pittsfield 57-37 on Jan. 4.

Look ahead: Two meets for the Hurricanes this week. They'll host Wahconah on Jan. 8 and then take on Taconic on Jan. 11.

Greylock wrestling

Look back: The Mounties took third place at the Monument Holiday Tournament on Dec. 30. Travis Hilchey and Mitch Graves each won their weight class.

Look ahead: Greylock takes on Monument Mountain on Jan. 9.
