PITTSFIELD -- Eric Leitch scored two goals and an assist, crossed the 100-point mark and the St. Joseph's hockey team earned back-to-back wins over Taconic with a 4-0 decision Wednesday night.
The line of Andy Cella, Derek Romejko and Mike Bloom combined for eight points on the night.
"They all have some pretty good speed, good hands," coach Tim Kelly said. "They do a lot of communicating out there."
Both of Leitch's goals came in the third period, just 2 minutes, 36 seconds apart and ballooned the Crusaders' lead from two to four.
His brother Andrew was holding the fort at the other end and stopped all 19 shots for the shutout.
St. Joe's needs just one point in its final two games -- both against Mount Everett -- for a spot in the postseason.
Wahconah hockey
PITTSFIELD -- Lane Grogan joined the 100-point club, but the Hennessy League-leading Warriors couldn't keep up with the Chicopee's barrage of goals in a 9-5 loss.
"It was probably our worst defensive effort of the season," coach Don Disbrow said. "They're a definite contender for [Western Mass. Division] III-A. They had good team speed, balance and that's not a team that you want to go out and not show up [against]."
Ryan Ouimet scored two goals and two assists for Wahconah, while Grogan had two assists and a third-period goal that gave him the 100th point of his career. He's the sixth Warrior in three seasons to reach the
Drury girls' basketball
PITTSFIELD -- The Blue Devils' offense was consistent if nothing else. They scored 24 points in each half on their way to a 48-40 win over North Division foe Taconic.
Shannon Garvey was the only Blue Devil in double figures, scoring 18 and setting a season high. She also hauled in seven rebounds.
"Our defense was really active tonight," coach John Franzoni said. "They did a good job with our press."
Megan Benoit had nine points off the bench. Drury forced 17 turnovers and gave it away just nine times.
McCann boys' basketball
WESTFIELD -- The downward spiral continued for the Hornets with a 59-38 loss to St. Mary's.
Matt Plasse torched McCann for 12 of his game-high 22 points in the first quarter.
"That Plasse kid killed us in the first half," Mike Nykorchuck said. "He got outside our zone and buried us."
His 12 first-quarter points helped St. Mary's out to a seven-point cushion after 8 minutes, and it maintained it throughout the second. St. Mary's then put McCann farther in the review mirror with another 16 in the third quarter before having its best offensive output in the fourth with 17 points.
Josh Superneau was the lone Hornet in double figures with 17 points.
