NORTH ADAMS -- With a winter storm warning in effect on Wednesday, Northern Berkshire County received high winds, rain and snow, with hilltowns receiving more snow than rain.
John Hockridge of New England Weather Associates in North Adams said though a winter storm warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday, the heaviest snow is behind us.
"We'll have some off and on light snow [Thursday] and even some light snow flurries Friday as the storm pulls away," he said.
Much of Wednesday's storm occurred before daylight, Hockridge said. Late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, hilltowns saw anywhere from 3 to 6 inches. Throughout much of Wednesday, he said, higher elevations saw wet snow, while lower elevations saw rain.
No community was immune from heavy wind -- a high wind advisory was in effect until 3 p.m. Wednesday, Hockridge said.
"My peak wind gust was 47 miles per hour," he said. "The hilltowns probably saw gusts up to 50. But mostly they were in the 30s."
With the winter weather came only minor accidents -- local police departments reported several cars skidding off the road into snowbanks, with no injuries.
Tim Kaiser, director of the Williamstown Department of Public Works, said much of Wednesday was business as usual.
"There were no big issues at all," he said.

Slushy conditions Wednesday morning prompted Berkshire County schools to declare a two-hour delay, including Adams-Cheshire Regional, Berkshire Arts and Technology Public Charter School, Clarksburg Elementary, Lanesborough Elementary, North Adams Public Schools, McCann Technical School, Mount Greylock Regional High School, Pine Cobble School, St. Stan's, Stamford Elementary and Williamstown Elementary.
MCLA had a one-hour delay, with classes starting at 9 a.m.
In addition, Abbot Memorial School in Florida announced it will have a two-hour delay today.
